Qu jia is also the vice President of The Chinese Society of Ophthalmology, the vice President of the Ophthalmologist branch of the Chinese Medical Doctors Association, the President of the National Optometry Federation and the chief scientist of China's national "973" project.

Professor Qu Jia is the main pioneer of higher education in ophthalmic optometry in China, integrating traditional ophthalmology with modern optometry. In 1988, he established the first ophthalmic optometry major in China in Wenzhou Medical College and the first ophthalmic optometry hospital in China in 1998. After more than ten years of practice, the ophthalmic optometry major of Wenzhou Medical University has been developed into an ophthalmic optometry education system with undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and seven-year postgraduate programs. It is the first "Wenzhou Model of Ophthalmic optometry Education in China", which has been highly recognized and praised by the international community.
