·Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine

Founded in 1956, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine is one of the first four Chinese medicine colleges and universities established in New China. It was originally directly under the leadership of the Ministry of Health and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2000, it was transferred to the management of the People's Government of Guangdong Province. It is now a key construction university and high-level university construction unit of the "211 Project" in Guangdong Province. In 2017, it was selected as the first batch of national "double first-class" discipline construction universities. It is one of the two Chinese medicine universities with first-level disciplines and national key disciplines. The only provincial university with first-level national key disciplines. After 60 years of construction and development, the school's overall school-running level, medical service capabilities and international influence are among the top Chinese medicine schools in the country.


 


   The school has two campuses, Sanyuanli and University Town, covering an area of 1,377 acres and a building area of more than 780,000 square meters. There are 1373 full-time teachers, including 384 with senior professional titles and 458 with deputy senior titles. There are a number of famous experts and professors represented by masters of traditional Chinese medicine Deng Tietao, Xuan Guowei and Zhou Daihan.    "Emphasis on classics and strong clinical practice" is the most distinctive feature of the school's undergraduate teaching. In the mid-1980s, the school took the lead in launching the teaching reform of classics returning to clinical practice, incorporating the four classics into the teaching plan as compulsory courses, implementing a management system of "integration of colleges and departments" to promote the coordinated development of medical education. "The characteristic training model of high-quality TCM talents with emphasis on classics and strong clinical practice" won the second prize of the 2014 National Teaching Achievement Award. In 2015, it was identified by the Ministry of Education as the first batch of colleges and universities to implement the "Pilot Reform of the Educational Training Plan for Outstanding Doctors (Traditional Chinese Medicine)" and to undertake the "Pilot Project for the Reform of Top Innovative TCM Talent Model". In 2017, it was selected as the second batch of national demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform. In recent years, the passing rate of students participating in the qualification examination for practicing physicians has consistently ranked among the best in Chinese medicine institutions across the country. Degree and postgraduate education began in 1978. It is one of the first universities in the country to be granted the right to grant doctorate and master degrees. The enrollment scale and quality of graduate students rank among the top Chinese medicine schools in the country.


   The school's scientific research work insists on highlighting characteristics and demonstrating advantages. The "Clinical and Experimental Research on Spleen Deficiency Myasthenia Gravis" led by Professor Deng Tietao, a master of traditional Chinese medicine, won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award in 1992; the "Series Research on Spleen Deficiency Syndrome Differentiation and Treatment" led by lifelong professor Wang Jianhua won the 2000 National Science and Technology Progress Award II In 2016, his landmark achievement "Spleen Deficiency Theory and Its Application Research Inheritance and Innovation" was selected into the "China Traditional Chinese Medicine Major Theoretical Inheritance and Innovation Collection"; Professor Yuan Hao led the "Research on the Treatment of Femoral Head Necrosis by Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine" won 2000 The second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award. In the prevention and treatment of major infectious diseases in Chinese medicine, schools have the courage to take the initiative and take the initiative. As a major member unit, the school participated in the national "523" malaria prevention and control project, clinically confirmed the anti-malarial efficacy of artemisinin, and made a significant contribution to the invention of artemisinin. The series of research results of Professor Li Guoqiao's team have successively won the National Science Conference Award, the Second Prize of National Technological Invention, and the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress. The school focuses on building 7 platforms such as the Guangdong Branch of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, the Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the South China Collaborative Innovation Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the South China Acupuncture Research Center, the International Chinese Medicine Translational Medicine Research Center, the Modern Southern Medicine Engineering Technology Center, and the Lingnan Medical Research Center. , Has 52 scientific research platforms above the provincial and ministerial level.


   Based on its own advantages, the school actively participates in the construction of a strong province of Chinese medicine. There are currently 6 directly affiliated hospitals (including 2 jointly built with the government) and 30 non-directly affiliated hospitals. The directly affiliated hospital has more than 8,000 beds, the total number of outpatient visits exceeds 12 million, and the total number of discharges exceeds 180,000. The First Affiliated Hospital became the first batch of innovative pilot units for the diagnosis and treatment of traditional Chinese medicine, and the second batch of "National TCM Clinical Research Base Construction Units". It is one of the hospitals with the most regional TCM (specialist) diagnosis and treatment centers in the country; the Second Affiliated Hospital has continuous outpatient visits Ranked No. 1 in the industry in the country for 20 years, No. 1 in the "Top 100 Competitive Chinese Hospitals of Traditional Chinese Medicine" for 4 consecutive years, and rated as a "National Civilized Unit" for 5 consecutive years. It is now a high-level hospital in Guangdong Province. "Plan" is the first batch of key construction units; the Third Affiliated Hospital is the only third-level Grade A orthopedic hospital in Guangdong Province. During the "SARS" period, Deng Tietao, a master of Chinese medicine, was appointed as the leader of the anti-SARS TCM expert group of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He advocated early intervention of Chinese medicine with outstanding clinical effects. He was recognized by experts from the World Health Organization and was promoted throughout the country.


  The school actively promotes collaborative innovation to serve the local economy. The school has established industry-university-research cooperation relationships with 15 cities and counties inside and outside the province to help farmers get rid of poverty and promote economic development in mountainous areas. Carry out all-round and multi-level cooperation with famous pharmaceutical companies such as Guangyao Group, China Resources Sanjiu, Kangmei Pharmaceutical, and Fosun Pharma. The series of proprietary Chinese medicines such as Wei Naian, Guxian Tablets, Xiaoke Pills, Jinfo Pain Pills, Zishen Yutai Pills developed by the school have become the core products of Guangdong pharmaceutical companies and are sold nationwide. In the past three years, the school has vigorously developed the transfer of scientific and technological achievements and technology transfer, and the contract funds for the transfer of scientific and technological achievements have reached more than 20 million yuan. In the province, 16 standardized planting bases of traditional Chinese medicinal materials featuring "Southern Medicine" have been established with a planting area of more than 200,000 mu.


   The school vigorously explores and promotes the culture of Chinese medicine, which has shaped the unique humanistic environment of the industry. The Guangdong Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine built by the school is the first batch of national secondary museums in universities across the country. Together with the First Affiliated Hospital and the Second Affiliated Hospital, it has been identified as the first batch of national Chinese medicine culture propaganda and education bases by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and has become Guangdong Communication An important window of Chinese medicine culture. The school has compiled and published a number of large-scale books such as "Popular Chinese Medicine Series" and "Lingnan Traditional Chinese Medicine Library", which have become the key recommended bibliographies for the "Traditional Chinese Medicine in China" activity. The school also co-produced a 12-episode large-scale documentary "Xuanhu Lingnan" with the Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Guangdong Radio and Television.


   The school gives full play to its geographical and cultural advantages, and actively serves the national "One Belt One Road" strategy. Since enrolling foreign students in 1974, it has trained more than 20,000 senior TCM talents in more than 110 countries and regions. The school has been cooperating with Southeast Asian countries and African countries to carry out anti-malarial research. The fourth-generation artemisinin series compound antimalarial drugs with independent intellectual property rights developed by Professor Li Guoqiao’s team were listed as a key project for the construction of a strong province of traditional Chinese medicine in Guangdong Province and a key foreign cooperation project of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. "National gifts" are presented to many African countries. Professor Song Jianping's scientific research team cooperated in the implementation of the artemisinin compound rapid malaria elimination project in the Comoros, effectively curbing the local malaria epidemic and achieving the first zero death of malaria in the country's history, which has attracted widespread attention from the international community. Artemisinin has obtained international patent protection in 38 countries including the United States, trademark registration in 29 countries, and has been marketed in 22 malaria-endemic countries. The school strengthens cooperation in medical research with foreign countries. The First Affiliated Hospital and the Icahn Medical College of Mount Sinai in the United States have carried out research on the prevention and treatment of immunological diseases with traditional Chinese medicine; Signed a contract with the Massachusetts General Hospital of the United States to build the Massachusetts General Hospital China Hospital in Hengqin, Zhuhai; the school cooperated with the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia to organize the Shenzhen School of Life and Health Engineering. In addition, the school has taken the initiative to undertake the China-ASEAN Cooperation Fund Project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and cooperate with ASEAN countries on the higher education of traditional medicine.
