Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a national "double first-class" construction university and a high-level university construction university in Jiangsu Province. It is a university jointly established by the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The school was founded in 1954 and is one of the earliest higher schools of Chinese medicine in the country. In the 64 years since the establishment of the school, Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has delivered the first batch of teachers for the training of higher education of Chinese medicine in New China. The set of textbooks and syllabus gave birth to the earliest academic committee members in the field of Chinese medicine, and made important contributions to the establishment and promotion of the new China's higher education mode of Chinese medicine. It is known as the "cradle of higher education in Chinese medicine" in China.

Clinical medicine, pharmacology and toxicology are among the top 1% of ESI's global ranking. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, the school's three main disciplines of Chinese medicine, Chinese pharmacy, and integrated Chinese and Western medicine all entered the A category. The school is one of the first batch of units authorized to have master's degree and doctorate degree in the country. There are 4 first-level doctoral degree programs in Chinese medicine, Chinese pharmacy, integrated Chinese and Western medicine, and nursing. The degree programs cover all second-level disciplines of Chinese medicine, Chinese medicine, and integrated Chinese and Western medicine.

   School is an international acupuncture training center designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) Traditional Medicine Cooperation Center and the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China. It is one of the first batch of higher TCM schools approved by the Ministry of Education to accept and train foreign students and students from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. In 1993, the school cooperated with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia to launch the Chinese medicine major, which was the first time that my country cooperated with Western regular universities to carry out traditional Chinese medicine education. The school strives to promote the overseas dissemination of Chinese medicine through the Confucius Institute of Chinese Medicine and overseas Chinese medicine centers. On June 20, 2010, the school cooperated with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia to establish the Confucius Institute of Chinese Medicine. The school currently has extensive exchanges and contacts with more than 90 countries and regions in the world, and has established friendly cooperative relations with governments, colleges and universities or academic groups and institutions in more than 30 countries and regions in the world, and has established successively in Oceania, Europe, and the Americas. 8 overseas Chinese medicine centers have been established, among which 3 centers in China-Australia, China-Switzerland, and China-France have become national-level overseas Chinese medicine centers.
